Description
The use of travel demand models for project forecasting in Ohio will be presented as a case study. General planning versus preliminary project planning in Ohio will be addressed. The role of traffic forecasts in various stages of project development including project planning, development of conceptual alternatives and detailed design will be contrasted with traffic forecast types such as raw model output, planning level traffic and design traffic. Additionally, the different levels of analysis needed for different the different project classifications used in Ohio (minimal, minor, major, mega) will be discussed. Finally, some of the key checks and refinements that should be conducted on travel demand models used for project analysis will be covered.

The webinar will also look at NCHRP 255: Highway Traffic Data for Urbanized Area Project Planning and Design, discuss why it was developed, provide an overview of NCHRP 255 procedures for developing project level forecasts from regional travel demand model outputs, and identify common practices and pitfalls in project level forecasting.
