TRB Call for Papers, Subcommittee on Megaregions

TRB 2019 Call for Papers: Passenger and Freight Mobility in U.S. Megaregions

The TRB Sub-committee on Megaregions invites you to submit papers for the upcoming TRB Annual Meeting in 2019. The U.S. DOT’s 30-year framework for the future, “Beyond Traffic 2045: Trends and Choices”, highlights the significance of megaregions to the nation’s future. Three fourths of U.S. jobs and population will concentrate in the eleven megaregions by 2050. The anticipated growth of seventy million people in the forthcoming thirty years will mostly occur in the megaregions; along with increased demand for passenger and freight mobility on a mega scale. While mobility problems occur locally they often originate beyond local jurisdictions with their sources crossing regional, state, or even national boundaries. The Committee is interested in papers on all topics related to passenger and freight transportation issues crossing multi-jurisdictional boundaries in megaregions. Examples of topical issues related to megaregions include:

·       Regional planning and setting of transportation priorities

Identify appropriate institutional and analytical frameworks and governance structures to address cross-jurisdictional issues. Research on methods and strategies for passenger and freight mobility analysis and solutions from a megaregional perspective. Methods for modeling and analyzing transportation at the megaregion level.

·       Increased access to opportunities that promote equity and connectivity for megaregions,  including linkages between urban and rural communities

Capitalize access-enabling spatial strategies; Understand equity implications for elderly and rural populations in the megaregion; Develop new environmental justice metrics; and Improve public engagement through crowd-sourced information, develop metrics of regionwide connectivity and  accessibility.

·       Innovations in multi-modal planning and modeling for high-growth regions

Optimize multi-modality and inter-modality; Develop decision support systems (DSS) and modeling tools for mega-region, multi-state transportation planning and performance assessment; Study new transportation technologies and ICTs (Information and Communications Technologies) for cross-regional, high-speed mobility enhancement.

Please indicate ADA20(1), Committee on Metropolitan Planning, Policy and Process, Subcommittee on Megaregions on the Submission Review website to indicate that the paper is being submitted in response to this call for papers.

Papers for the 2019 Annual Meeting must be submitted electronically no later than August 1, 2018. Paper submission information is posted on the TRB website at http://www.trb.org/AnnualMeeting/ResourcePages.aspx
