The Texas A&M Transportation Institute is seeking applicants for an Assistant Research Scientist/Engineer to work in the Travel Forecasting Program in Austin, Texas.  Salary is commensurate with experience. 

Position Description

This position will conduct and support travel demand/behavior modeling, transportation planning, and multi-modal travel forecasting. The position will also provide technical and analytical support in travel model development and applications that make use of existing and advanced techniques, approaches, sources of data, and enhance existing programming scripts.  The position will also be involved in informal one-to-one and small group training in implemented travel modeling methods. 

Required Education and Experience:

Education: Master’s in engineering or planning or related field with an emphasis in transportation.

Experience: 3 years related work experience in transportation, modeling, and forecasting.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Experience with TransCAD or similar travel forecasting software including scripting/programming experience including GISDK experience.  Knowledge of statistical analysis.  Working knowledge of travel demand model inputs, calibration, and validation as well as traffic engineering, transportation planning, land use/demographic analysis.  Proficiency using spreadsheet and databases.  Ability to manage multiple tasks.  Good writing and communication skills.  Ability to work cooperatively with others on team assignments and directly with sponsors.
