banning thru trucks on roadways

Dear TMIP,
Are you aware of either:

1. Federal regulations restricting states/cities from excluding trucks (or thru trucks, or 4+ axle trucks) from principal arterials or NHS highways?
2. An existing exclusion of trucks (or thru trucks, or 4+ axle trucks) on a principal arterial or NHS highway?

FHWA publishes truck size and weight information. That might be good place
to start.

Hope this helps.

I-580 in Oakland, CA has a truck ban that was grandfathered in when it
became an interstate.

We had this discussion over the last few years for US 84 in our community. Working with GA DOT we came to the conclusion that AASHTO would not permit a local or state truck restriction on a segment of this roadway. We are currently working on a truck bypass of our downtown to mitigate the increasing truck impacts on this historic area.

In my opinion if the route is NHS there are very few truck restrictions in place and as previously mentioned I suspect they were grandfathered for some reason.
