Differential privacy in the 2020 census

Many of you are probably aware that the Census Bureau employs techniques to prevent disclosure
of private information.  In 2020, there will be a new approach to modifying the actual headcount based on the concept of
differential privacy.  To help people understand the possible effects, the Census Bureau released an

alternative version of the 2010 headcount.  Those of you interested in the effects of differential privacy may find the maps at

informative.  The first map illustrates that congressional boundaries would have been drawn differently after the 2010 census.  The
second map illustrates that there could be direct political and economic impacts of differential privacy.  The third map
makes it clear that estimates of trip generation and travel patterns that rely on TAZ data would also be quite different.
