Description
This webinar will provide an overview of several studies, emphasizing why a DTA approach was pursued, observations, and lessons learned over the course of the study.

Presenters
Jim Hicks, PB Americas
Jim Hicks is a senior travel modeler for Parsons Brinckerhoff, in his 13th year with the firm. Jim received a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Jim chairs the TRB Network Models in Practice Subcommittee of the Network Modeling Committee.
Natarajan "Jana" Janarthanan, Fehr & Peers
Natarajan “Jana” Janarthanan received his Ph. D from the University of Washington, Seattle and has more than 25 years of experience in travel demand forecasting, traffic engineering, corridor analysis, and multi-modal transportation planning. Jana has assisted many clients in the Puget Sound Region with travel demand models and forecasts and traffic engineering needs. He is currently leading the Fehr & Peers team in the areas of travel demand modeling and DTA modeling and applications.
Arash Mirzaei, North Central Texas COG
Arash holds master degrees in both civil engineering and computer science. Kathy holds master degree in civil engineering. Behruz has a PhD degree in civil engineering. Arash is the manager of the Regional Travel Model and Data Management Group. His group carries a wide range of skills from web/database programming to statistical analysis and model development. There are 3 persons in data section and 5 persons in model section. The function of the group includes data collection, management of data, creation of data products such as databases and web sites, model development, GIS programming, supporting application projects for air quality, alternative analysis, NEPA, New Starts, and Toll analyses.
Jeff Shelton, Texas Transportation Institute
Jeff Shelton is an Assistant Research Scientist with Texas Transportation Institute's Center for International Intelligent Transportation Research. He graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) with both his bachelors and masters degrees in civil engineering. He is currently working on several research projects that incorporate multi-resolution simulation modeling which include DTA models.
Sarath Joshua, Maricopa Association of Governments
Dr. Sarath Joshua is the ITS and Safety Program Manager at Maricopa Association of Governments for ITS and Safety Planning. He also serves on the SHRP2 Technical Coordinating Committee that provides direction and oversight to the national research program on Reliability.
Doug Laird, Federal Highway Administration
Doug Laird provides transportation planning and traffic engineering services in the Federal Highway Administration's Office of Federal Lands Highways. He has over 25 years experience in a wide range of project-level planning efforts aimed at improving urban transportation systems. Mr. Laird holds a bachelors and masters degree in civil engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. His presentation today is about his experiences with dynamic traffic assignment for a study in downtown Washington, DC.
