Description: This webinar will cover technical motivation for why anything matters about traffic assignment and convergence, common pitfalls as revealed by the study, some of the consequences of ignoring issues, and some basic suggestions about how to validate models against counts and with the new travel time data available.

Presenters: Ken Cervenka is a Community Planner at the FTA. Ken Cervenka has worked at the FTA since 2007. His major responsibilities include technical assistance to MPOs, transit providers, and other agencies interested in preparing transit rider "on-board" surveys and transit ridership forecasts, plus encouraging the use of a multimodal performance-based planning approach. Prior to joining FTA, Ken worked as the travel forecasting manager at the North Central Texas Council of Governments, the MPO for the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Howard Slavin, President, Caliper Corporation, is the founder and president of Caliper Corporation. He has more than thirty years of experience in travel demand modeling, geographic information systems, and the development of software for transportation forecasting. Dr. Slavin initiated and has guided the development of all Caliper’s software products including TransCAD, MAPTITUDE, and TransModeler. He holds an AB degree from Yale College in Mathematics and Urban Studies, a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Harvard University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge in England.
