Position Description:
You will play a pivotal role in developing new mobility products and services as part of Ford's Mobility Research group. This varied and interdisciplinary group is dedicated to groundbreaking research to improve transportation accessibility, mobility, and sustainability for all. The candidate will support research projects helping Ford develop, model, and simulate new and innovative mobility solutions, including micro-transit, dynamic shuttles, smart cities, and connected and automated vehicles. The position requires comfort with coding, a willingness to solve novel and complex transportation modeling problems, and the ability to rapidly learn and use new software. Post-docs encouraged.

Major responsibilities of this position include:
∙ Run transportation simulations at many different scales (macro-, shared mobility, micro-, co-sim, etc.) and analyze the results
∙ Use APIs to integrate service algorithms (e.g. routing for shared mobility) into modeling frameworks
∙ Add plug-ins to existing modeling tools to better integrate new mobility solutions (e.g. adding scooters as a mode).
∙ Apply AI/ML to big mobility data sets
∙ Software development of various transportation and mobility tools
∙ Support the integration of transportation modeling results into a visualization platform

Experience Required:
∙ 2+ years' hands-on experience in Java, Python, R, C++, and/or SQL
∙ 2+ years' hands-on experience with GitHub
∙ 2+ years' experience designing, building, and deploying software using technologies (both back-end engineering and front-end design), including software architecture expertise

Experience Preferred:
∙ First-hand experience with different types of transportation modeling, such as mode choice modeling or smart traffic signal logic development
∙ Experience with Tableau and GIS-based tools (e.g. QGIS, ArcGIS)
∙ Understands and can participate in all aspects of the product life cycle: conceptual design, development, deployment, and operations
∙ Experience with multi-objective optimization
∙ Experience with AI/ML applications, especially in a transportation context
∙ Familiarity with Simulink in building wrapper/s-function for software interfacing
∙ Strong skills in database base management
∙ Experience manipulating urban data sets, including location-based and census data, for transportation modeling/analysis

Education Required:
∙ Master's Degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Operations Research, Urban Planning, or Transportation Engineering, or other fields with extensive coding experience

Education Preferred:
∙ Ph.D. in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Operations Research, Urban Planning, or Transportation Engineering, or other fields with extensive coding experience
