Description
This first part of this webinar will discuss a method for developing a statistically validated bicycle and pedestrian demand model using GIS and statistical regression. The presentation will discuss environmental factors obtained and used in the model such as density, demographics, and proximity to bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure and activity generators. A case study from Santa Monica, California will be presented. We will also discuss alternative methods for forecasting pedestrian and bicycle demand and opportunities for further research in this area including the upcoming NCHRP 08-78 study.
The second part of the webinar will discuss the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments state of the art traffic count program development and use. On the development side a presentation on collecting, storing and managing data using the Traffic Count Database System will be discussed. On the use side integrating traffic counts for highway performance monitoring system, travel demand model validation, and annual traffic trends analysis.
Presenters
Matt Haynes, P.E., A.I.C.P., is an Associate for Fehr and Peers in San Jose specializing in Smart Growth and Fehr and Peers' Cool Connections initiative. He received a dual masters in Transportation Engineering and City and Regional Planning from the University of California, Berkeley.
Seth Andrzejewski is an Engineer/Planner for Fehr and Peers in San Francisco specializing in travel demand forecasting techniques. He received a dual masters in Transportation Engineering and City and Regional Planning from the University of California, Berkeley.
Chade Saghir is a Senior Transportation Planner for the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments in Detroit Michigan. Chade has been with SEMCOG for 14 years focusing on traffic monitoring data, HPMS, and transportation operations. Chade received a master’s degree in Urban Planning from Wayne State University – Detroit.
Li-yang Feng is a Coordinator for the transportation modeling section in the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments in Detroit, Michigan. Li-yang is a specialist in travel demand forecasting techniques. He has a Ph.D. degree in civil engineering and he is a registered professional engineer.
