highway weaving sections coding

Dear All,

We are reviewing our model network coding in EMME and have some questions for the highway weaving sections coding:

1) Do we need to code the weaving lane as a separate lane?
2) IF yes, how to decide the capacity for the weaving section?

Thanks a lot!

That question is not EMME-specific. It also holds for Cube (both Voyager and Avenue) and some other macro/meso DTA programs such as DynusT. In Cube Voyager you can assign any fraction of a full lane capacity because all that matters in static assignment is the total capacity of the link which goes into VDFs and not the number of lanes. Local loop detector information (Volume-density-speed) might be used to calibrate that fraction.

In DynusT non-integer number of lanes is not accepted. One way could be defining a separate traffic flow model (fundamental diagram) that represents the whole cross section including the auxiliary lane. However, it might not be practical for large-size networks. I would love to hear others' experience/ideas on this matter.
