Innovations in MAG Activity-Based Model and Incorporation of Travel Time Reliability in Modeling Procedures (December 20, 2017)

Description: The session will focus on the innovative features and implementation details of the Maricopa Association of Governments Activity-Based Model. Special attention will be given to incorporation of travel time reliability metrics in the model and the model implementation details such as software development and hardware architecture, data requirements and approaches for results analysis and visualization. The presenters will describe activity generation and tour formation, with an emphasis on supply side of the activities, sub-model for escorting children to school, improved models for work arrangements, and features designed for future integration with dynamic traffic assignments. Next steps in model development will be discussed as well.

Presenters:  Vladimir Livshits - Maricopa Association of Governments
Vladimir has more than 30 years of experience in the fields of transportation planning, travel demand modeling and transportation economics. He has Ph.D. in Transportation Planning and Economics and M.Sc. in computer science from Moscow State Technical University. He works as a program manager for the Maricopa Association of Governments.

Shuyao Hong - Maricopa Association of Governments
Shuyao is a Transportation Engineer II with Maricopa Association of Governments. He primarily works on data analysis and visualization of travel, traffic, and travel demand model datasets. He received his Master's Degree in Geography from Arizona State University.

Petya Maneva - Maricopa Association of Governments
Petya is a Transportation Engineer and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) professional with the travel demand modeling team at Maricopa Association of Governments. She is responsible for data preparation of the model inputs, spatial analytics and visualization. Petya holds a Master's degree in GIS from University of Redlands, California and has extensive knowledge of the ESRI software. She has given multiple presentations at technical conferences and workshops.

Arup Dutta- Maricopa Association of Governments
Arup is a System Modeling Engineer with Maricopa Association of Governments. His area of specialization is Travel Demand Modeling. He has a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering from University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Peter Vovsha - WSP
Peter is the Assistant Vice President of WSP responsible for research & development of innovative transportation models. In recent years, he managed many ABM development projects and ABM-DTA integration projects. His research work and expertise include travel behavior analysis, econometrics, decision-making algorithms, and agent-based modeling. He is also active in such model application areas as pricing studies, travel time reliability, autonomous vehicles, and premium transit services.

Jim Hicks- WSP
Jim is a Principal Software Developer and Travel Demand Analyst with the Systems Analysis Group at WSP. Jim has been the principal software architect of the ABM development projects and ABM-DTA integration projects at WSP. He has also been active in application of DTA for analysis of traffic in regard to regionally significant construction closures. Jim received a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Kyunghwi (KJ) Jeon - Maricopa Association of Governments
KJ is a Transportation Engineer III with Maricopa Association of Governments. He primarily works on activity based travel demand model development and maintenance. He also worked on the MAG Behavioral Freight Model Development project which was a part of the FHWA SHRP2 C20 Implementation Assistance Program.
