Please join the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Office of Freight Management and Operations for a webinar on the Freight Analysis Framework Version 5 (FAF5).

What’s New In FAF5:

Overview of FAF5 Base Year/Forecasted Data and Web-Based Data Tool

July 28, 2022 at 1:00-2:00 PM Eastern

To attend the webinar, please register at https://usdot.zoomgov.com/webinar/register/WN_kVd3vDOaTTuDTDx8OJLMDA

The webinar will feature speakers from FHWA (Birat Pandey), IHS Markit (Paul Bingham), and Oak Ridge National Laboratories (Hyeonsup Lim). Speakers will provide an overview of FAF5 base year data, forecasted data, and highlight a web-based data tool available for FAF users.

Background

FAF is produced through a partnership between the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) and FHWA. FAF integrates data from various sources to create a comprehensive picture of freight movement among States and major metropolitan areas by all modes of transportation. The 2017 Commodity Flow Survey and international trade data from the Census Bureau serve as the foundation of FAF. FAF provides estimates for tonnage and value by regions, origin and destination, commodity type, and mode for base year 2017 and a forecasted horizon year (2050). FAF5 forecasts provide information on future freight demand for three economic growth scenarios at five-year increments through 2050, by various modes of transportation.

FAF is updated every five years. Recently, the latest version of this resource (FAF5) was jointly released by BTS and FHWA.

This webinar is the first in a two-part series. The second webinar will highlight updates in the FAF5 highway network assignment model and new FAF5 analysis and visualization tools.
