Description: This is the second in a series of three webinars on Large-Scale Strategic Transport Models in Australia and Europe. It will describe six models that have been developed for conurbations and countries in northern and western Europe by RAND Europe. The presentation will focus on the design of the models and how this relates to the different policy issues in each of the areas, with consideration of data issues and the changes that have been made to the models over time.

Presenters: Andrew Daly and James Fox (RAND)

Andrew Daly is a Senior Research Fellow at RAND Europe, a Research Professor at the Institute for Transport Studies in Leeds, Guest Professor at KTH in Stockholm and the author of the widely-used ALOGIT software; he received the 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Association for Travel Behaviour Research. He has participated in seven national model studies, together with a dozen conurbation models and publishes extensively on transport modelling.

James Fox is a Research Leader and is RAND Europe's Quality Assurance Manager. He holds a Master's degree in Civil Engineering from Imperial College London and an MSc in Transportation from the University of London, and has recently completed a Ph.D. on model transferability at the Institute for Transport Studies at the University of Leeds. He has considerable experience in estimating disaggregate multi-modal variable demand models in urban, regional and national contexts and in the development of forecasting systems for these models. He also worked on the estimation and implementation of models for Sydney, the West Midlands Region of the UK, Paris, Norway, Denmark and the Netherlands. He has managed the development of demand model systems for Paris, Copenhagen, Sydney and a number of medium sized towns in the UK, contributed to the development of long-distance demand models for the Department for Transport and High Speed Two Ltd, and leads RAND Europe's ongoing role to assist with the development and applications of the PRISM model for the West Midlands.
