NCHRP 17-81 Facilitated Sessions

Greetings,

In partnership with the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP), VHB, CIMA+, and Persaud & Lyon are developing new models and content for a future edition of the AASHTO Highway Safety Manual (HSM) applicable to transportation planning activities. The predictive safety models will estimate crashes for a defined area, such as a Census tract, traffic analysis zone (TAZ), or county/region. The goal is to allow transportation planners and safety engineers to weigh the impact of future roadway, traffic, socioeconomic, and land use conditions on future safety outcomes during the comprehensive planning process.

The project team is conducting a series of facilitated discussions to better understand how agencies may use these models in the transportation planning process. The small group discussions are an opportunity for MPO, county/region, and city-level planning and engineering staff to share how they may apply the models. Tentative session dates are:

* Tuesday, May 1, 11 am EDT
* Thursday, May 3, 9 am EDT
* Monday, May 7, 3 pm EDT
If your agency is interested in participating, you may contact Ian Hamilton at ihamilton@vhb.com by Thursday, April 26 with your availability for each date listed above. Once we have confirmed participants and dates, we will follow up with a short, online survey that will ask detailed questions about your agency's work with models and safety outcomes.

Thank you in advance for your interest and participation!
Taruna
