POSITION SUMMARY:
One full-time position is available. This position will be filled at the assistant or associate level depending on the successful candidate's qualifications. This position will be located within the Modeling Services Division of the Research Center Department at Metro. This is a nationally recognized team well known for its innovative approaches to problem solving and modeling expertise.
Assistant pay range: $56,534.40 - $75,795.20 annually
Associate pay range: $62,337.60 - $83,574.40 annually
The position incumbent will serve as a travel demand modeler and data analysis researcher participating in numerous multimodal transportation studies within the Portland region. Customized travel models are developed in conjunction with commercially available network software and are used to help determine the impacts to the region's transportation system from potential infrastructure improvements and household/employment growth assumptions. Typical tasks may involve the coding of multimodal transportation networks, the application of travel demand models, and the analysis and interpretation of results. The more experienced incumbent may be involved in the design of new models. Software programming, database development and query methods, statistical analysis, data science, econometrics and GIS will be used extensively in this work. The skill levels of the two classifications vary. Incumbents will be assigned work tasks that best match their demonstrated skill level.
Supervision is received from the division manager and lead direction is provided by principal and senior transportation researcher and modelers.
The ideal Assistant Researcher and Modeler candidate will possess:

* experience with problems involving quantitative analysis
* computer skills to perform numerical and relational analysis (e.g., programming, database development and query, statistics, GIS)
* experience or classroom training with regard to travel demand forecasting models and their application
* effective communication skills in order to present model results and their meaning to the project team and interested parties
The ideal Associate Researcher and Modeler candidate will possess:

* emerging competence in the use of travel demand models and their application
* analytical capabilities in assessing model data using programming, database development and query, statistical skills, and GIS
* effective communication skills in order to present model results and their meaning to the project team and interested parties

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Assistant Researcher and Modeler: A Bachelor's degree in a quantitative science (engineering, computer science, economics, geography, etc.) or planning (with a quantitative emphasis) and demonstrated experience in quantitative planning or modeling with extensive computer programming/software development experience or any combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job.

Associate Researcher and Modeler: A Bachelor's degree in a quantitative science (mathematics, statistics, econometrics, engineering, computer science, economics, geography, etc.) or planning (with a quantitative emphasis) and one year of transportation modeling or computer programming/software development experience; or any combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job.
