Recent article on how models influence the long-range planning process?

I teach an introduction to transportation planning course. For years I have used the following article from Susan Handy regarding how travel demand models influence MPO's long range planning processes. It's a great article, but I would like to start using something more recent.

Handy, S. 2008. Regional transportation planning in the US: An examination of changes in technical aspects of the planning process in response to changing goals. Transport Policy 15: 113-126.

The goal is to orient students to how travel demand models and their outputs can be used to inform transportation planning, especially long-range transportation plans, without requiring students to understand what is going on inside the models themselves.

Any suggestions? I would be especially interested in an article that broaches how activity-based models have changed the way travel demand models are being used.
