Release of Model Source Code

Hello,

I have a couple questions directed toward public agency staff on how their agency responds to requests for their transportation model source code/script. Does your agency have a policy on releasing model source code? Do you typically release it for all requests including those for informational purposes, or do you only release it if the requester requires the code for model development purposes?

Thanks!

Good morning Brian -
We release models (CUBE, VISSIM, Synchro etc) to anyone who requests them through a one page "release" form that states any changes made must be reviewed by the State, among other legal lingo. Generally, we do not release models if the project study is still ongoing and someone (usually the public) wants to see how the analysis is being done, but we do release them afterwards. If someone requests models for the purpose of building another model, we share as soon as we can, again with the release form. For those using VISSIM, we are actually completing a statewide controlled access base model only (no arterials) due to frequent requests for those corridors.
Hope that helps,
