The Texas A&M Transportation Institute is seeking applicants for a Research Scientist/Engineer to work in the Travel Forecasting Program in Austin, Texas.  Salary is commensurate with experience. 

Position Summary

The position is will provide lead-level support to transportation and travel behavior modeling, transportation planning, and multimodal travel forecasting activities of the program.  The position will also provide technical and analytical lead-level support in travel model development and application along with research and implementation evaluation of travel modeling methods that make use of existing and advanced techniques, approaches and sources of data.  The position will be substantially involved in the review and analysis of processed travel survey for use in travel model development and calibration and participate in assessment of passive sources of travel behavior data to support update of current, development of new travel demand models and research and testing of new model structures and methods.  The position involves participation in identification of future directions of modeling research and development of new sponsors and will serve as a contributor in the setting of future direction of travel modeling activities and participate in the development of research opportunities. 

Required Education and Experience

Education: Master’s in engineering or planning or related field with an emphasis in transportation.

Experience: 8 years related work experience in transportation, modeling, and forecasting.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Technical skills using and developing scripts in TransCAD, Cube or similar travel  forecasting software including advanced travel forecasting procedures for system pricing, mode choice, and time of day modeling and integration of new technologies.  Experience in the analysis and use of travel survey data in the development of travel models.  Experience in analysis of travel survey data and development of travel models using Python, R, C++, Java, HTML, and other programming/web-based systems/ languages.    Working knowledge of travel survey data collection methods and structure of travel surveys to support trip and tour-based urban travel behavior/demand models.  Knowledge of land use, demographics, freight/truck modeling, multi-modal, and other related travel forecasting procedures.
