The City of Charlotte’s Department of Transportation (CDOT) is seeking a self-starter with a
strong technical background and strong analytical skills to become a member of the Regional Travel Modeling and Analysis Section of the Planning and Design Division. The Charlotte DOT is responsible for maintaining and applying the travel demand model for a thirteen county, bi-state region with Charlotte at its center. Transportation planning for this region involves 4 Metropolitan Planning Organizations, 2 Rural Planning Organizations, and 2 State Departments of Transportation.

Senior Travel Demand Modeler
The person selected for this position will serve as a technical leader in the development, enhancement, and programming of the regional travel demand model as well as subarea models for high growth and congestion areas. He/She will conduct and manage detailed analyses of transportation demand and performance in a team setting using transportation modeling, air quality modeling, and geographic information systems software and databases. This position will perform computer programming related to travel demand modeling and analysis of transportation supply and performance. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated individual with strong macro and micro model development and application skills preferably using TransCAD and TransModeler/VISSIM. The ideal candidate will be able to communicate complex, technical work to a non-technical audience. The selected person will monitor, train, and mentor junior modeling staff.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree with five (5) years of relevant work experience; or a Master’s degree with three (3) years of relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties.
