This session will focus on visualization and public outreach. Is the Atlanta Regional Commission attaining its vision of healthy, livable communities, world-class infrastructure, and a competitive economy? Can the public engage in a meaningful discussion of the trends impacting our future through exploratory scenario planning? ARC has a rich history of performance-driven planning and decision-making but is working to better communicate the region’s progress through a visualization dashboard. The dashboard – DASH – is a public-facing interactive platform for our planning partners, the public, and ARC staff to understand where we are excelling and where we are falling short of our transportation goals. DASH uses salient data points to create an impactful story of our regional performance, and ties directly back to the national performance goals established through MAP-21. Join ARC to learn about DASH and an online tool being launched in summer 2019 which creates a gamified experience focused on four potential scenarios depicting the year 2050. While this tool is based upon complex thinking and model outputs, it is simplified in a way that an average person can participate. Paired with this digital tool, ARC will be conducting a variety of face-to-face engagement opportunities in order to hear directly from people what they think the future of our region will be. Working with both the quantitative and qualitative aspects of this exploratory exercise, we hope to produce a robust range of inputs to best inform our long-range planning efforts.
