Tenure-Track Assistant Professor Position

The Department of Transportation Studies in the College of Science and Technology at Texas Southern Universities invites applications for a tenure-track full-time faculty position (nine month academic year appointment) at the Assistant level in the area of Maritime Transportation Management and Security.

Texas Southern University (TSU), one of the nation's largest HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) is located in Houston, TX, the fourth largest city in the US, and one of the fastest-growing and forward-moving cities in the world. Founded in 1947, TSU is a four year special purpose institution of higher education dedicated to providing quality instruction, scholarly research, and socially responsible public service. Currently, it has about 9,000 students and 1,500 faculty and staff in 11 colleges and schools.

Responsibilities: Teaches at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels. Helps the chair in continued curriculum development for the Maritime Transportation and Security program. Engages in and promotes research in the maritime industry, specifically logistics, security, or freight and with the Port of Houston Authority. Performs other duties as assigned by the Chair of Transportation Studies.

Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Maritime, Freight and Logistics, Transportation Planning and Security, or any other fields appropriate to Maritime Transportation Management and Security is required. Applicants must have demonstrable commitment to undergraduate and graduate education as well as proven record of scholarly achievement in the field of maritime transportation. The appropriate candidates should have a distinguished record of research in an academic setting and/or maritime industry, a reputation for teaching and research with intellectual leadership. Candidates with professional licenses and certifications related to Maritime Transportation Management are preferred. All applicants must be able to demonstrate proficiency in oral and written communications, and be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.
