Traffic Impact: Tolls Off <--> Tolls On

Hi

We're currently conducting research to look at what happens to traffic demand when a highway, bridge or tunnel switches from being toll-free to being tolled (and vice versa).

We're compiling case-studies at the moment. We have quite a few, but are looking to further expand our sample. Do you know of any examples? For instance:

* Some toll facilities operate for a toll-free period upon opening (before implementing tolling)
* Some toll facilities have ceased tolling operations altogether.
* Some toll facilities temporarily suspend tolling, before reinstating them.
* [more rarely] some highways have instigated tolling for the first time.

We're particularly interested in:

* International case studies
* Circumstances where price was the only factor that changed (such that its effect can be isolated)
* Data (!) ie. case-studies where the 'before' and 'after' traffic data is in the public domain or is likely to be made available with us.

Happy to share our paper when published, if this is of interest to anyone.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Rob

Hi fellow list-subscribers,

Does anyone know of a well-respected, peer-reviewed academic journal - with a focus on transportation - that publishes (relatively) quickly?

One thing (of several) that puts us off publishing in academic journals is the lead time. Previous papers from us have taken over a year from submission to publication. That's simply crazy in this day and age.

Like many practitioners ie. applied researchers, having done the work we're keen to have it see the light of day before we grow old(er).

Any thoughts?

Many thanks,

Rob
